Shawls and wraps come in handy during a dressy occasion when a jacket would cover too much of the dress you painstakingly picked out, or when the weather is unpredictable, or you want to pack lightly. Oversize shawls and wraps can be especially comfortable and can give you enough coverage for your head should it start to rain, snow or get very windy. You can make one yourself using fleece, with no sewing involved, because fleece will not fray or unravel when cut correctly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Lay 1 yard of fleece over your work space. Choose the color of fleece you want for your finished product. Fleece can also be purchased in prints and patterns.

    • 2

Using fabric chalk mark off the shape you want your shawl or wrap to be. A rectangle 24 inches by 60 inches is a great place to start for an oversize wrap. If you are making a shawl, which can be exactly the same as a wrap or slightly different, instead of a rectangle you may want to create a triangle 60 inches by 48 inches by 48 inches.

    • 3

Cut just inside of your chalk lines with pinking shears to shape the shawl or wrap. Because you need not worry about the fleece fraying, your wrap or shawl is now complete. But you may wish to add decorative fringe.

    • 4

With sewing scissors cut slits inward around all of the edges of the fleece, spacing the slits 1/4 inch apart to make a consistent fringe.
