DIY Stealthy Netbook Sleeve
Netbooks are small laptop computers that sacrifice the size, storage and some of the functionality of larger, more powerful machines in exchange for portability and affordability. Rather than storing a netbook in a computer bag when not in use, many netbook owners keep their netbooks inside protective sleeves. By creating your own sleeve out of an old pair of pants and a cloth liner made from a shirt you will have an inexpensive alternative for stealthily storing your netbook when not in use.
Things You'll Need
- Ruler
- Soft cloth (such as from a sweatshirt)
- Needle
- Thread
- Shears
- Binder clip
- Pins
- Pants
Instructions

1
Measure the thickness and depth of your netbook (the distance from the front of the netbook to the back edge) and multiply by two. This is the perimeter length of your netbook.
-
2
Cut a rectangle of cloth with one side approximately 3 inches longer than twice the perimeter length and the longer side 4 inches longer than the width of the netbook.
-
-
3
Fold in one short side of the rectangle 1 inch, then sew along the seam. Cut off the excess cloth.
-
4
Place the short side of your netbook against the edge of the seam and wrap the cloth around the book. Lay a straight edge against the book at the point the two halves of cloth come together and secure with a binder clip. This creates a guide for sewing the lining shut. Remove the book, keeping the guide in place.
-
5
Sew along the length of the ruler to create a snug pocket with the lining cloth.
-
6
Place the netbook back into the pocket and secure a straight edge along the bottom edge with a clip. Remove the netbook and sew along the guide to complete the lining pocket. Trim off any excess cloth outside the prior two seams.
-
7
Turn the leg of a pair of pants inside out. The leg dimensions should be slightly larger than twice the perimeter distance of the netbook.
-
8
Cut off a section of the leg slightly longer than the netbook, beginning at the bottom cuff.
-
9
Insert the netbook into the pant leg aligned with the cuff, then secure the ruler to the other end of the leg, snug against the bottom of the netbook. Remove the book, sew along the guide and cut off the excess.
-
10
Turn the pant leg right-side out, then place the lining inside the pant leg pocket. Secure with pins.
-
11
Sew the lining to the pant leg pocket to complete your sleeve.
