DIY Rosette Collars
Plain T-shirts may not usually make the cut for your wardrobe, but they can become the foundation for an elegant clothing project. If you love over-the-top shirt collars laden with rosettes, don't shell out the bucks for one. Instead, dig through your wardrobe and pull out a plain tee or sweater. These items can quickly become elegant go-to pieces with the addition of a few ruffly fabric flowers. The flowers come together quickly for the craft-savvy and can adorn any shirt collar.

1
Cut the polyester fabric into 4-inch squares. Transparent fabrics, like chiffon or net, work well. Polyester also creates stiff rosettes. If you want softer flowers, try silks or satins.
-
2
Stack three or four squares on top of each other and round the corners with scissors, dipping inward toward the center of each side of each square. You should end up with shapes vaguely resembling butterflies.
-
-
3
Grip and crumple the center of each stack of squares, pinching inward to create ruffles and petals. Gently arrange the petals the way you want them.
-
4
Stitch the pinched part of each flower to hold the ruffles in place. The back of each flower should look puckered and tight.
-
5
Stitch the underside of each flower to the collar of your shirt, placing them as close together as possible. You'll need about 30 rosettes for a T-shirt or V-neck shirt and at least twice as many for the collar and sides of a button-down sweater or shirt.
