How to Use a Row Counter Crochet
Crocheting is form of yarn work used to create items ranging from clothing and bags to doilies and blankets. In order to follow instructions on a pattern, it is essential to know how many rows you have finished in your crochet work. Using a digital or manual row counter is an easy way to keep track of your rows.

1
Press the "Plus" button on a digital row counter each time you complete a row. The counter will add one to the total count and keep it in memory for next time you pick up the needle and crochet. Press the "Minus" button to subtract a row if you accidentally added one row or if you unravel a row.

Press the "Count" button on a manual push-button counter each time you complete a row. Push-button counters rotate a dial with numbers on it, moving to the next number position with each push. Press the "Release" button or rotate the dials to reset the count or subtract a row.

Turn the dials on a standard manual row counter clockwise when you have completed a row. Turn the dial on the right side of the counter with each row, and turn the left dial every 10 rows. Turn the dials counter clockwise to lower the row count.

Tips & Warnings
If you have no row counter available, use a pedometer. Shake the pedometer once for each row completed. Do not use a pedometer for projects you will be taking with you during the day, since a count will be added to the total with each step or shake that the pedometer notices.
