How to Finger Braid a Chain With Yarn
When you learn how to knit, it is important to first understand how the basic functions of knitting work. One way to do this is to finger braid a chain with yarn. Finger braiding, also known as finger knitting, enables you to see what occurs when a single stitch is knitted on a pair of knitting needles. This allows you to better understand how to knit properly when you work on an actual knitting project.

1
Cut a piece of yarn with scissors to measure 24 inches long.
-
2
Hold the yarn piece in one hand, and with the other, fold over one end of the string by 3 inches.
-
-
3
Hold the yarn by the folded end, and twist the fold one turn. This creates a loop.
-
4
Insert your thumb and index finger into the loop, and grasp the piece of yarn through the loop. Pull the yarn through the loop, and then hold the new loop in your fingers. This creates one finger-braided stitch and the first stitch on a yarn chain.

5
Insert your thumb and index finger into the new loop, and grasp the piece of yarn as before. Pull the yarn through the loop to create a third loop. This completes a second finger-braided stitch. Repeat this process to make the yarn chain as long as you prefer.
