Very few people enjoy doing housework, but it needs to get done. While letting the dishes pile up for one day might seem like a good idea at the time, it won't feel so great when you have twice as many to wash the next day. A routine is one way you can combat the issues of housework. Creating and sticking to a housework routine can make a seemingly overwhelming task much more manageable. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. A Routine for Yourself

      Determine what tasks need to be done around the house and how often each task needs to be done.

      Prioritize the tasks. Determine how often each should be completed and when it should be done.

      Check off each chore as it is done.

      Follow through with your list no matter what else is going on.

      Put things away as soon as possible. The less clutter you have, the less you will have to clean up later.

    A Routine for the Family

      Determine what tasks need to be done around the house and how often each task needs to be done.

      Set the day and or time that each task should be completed. Assign each task to a family member and fill in a chore chart accordingly.

      Follow the chore chart every day. Hold yourself and your family members accountable. Have everyone initial the task once it is completed.

      Update your chore chart as needed. You may find that things work better in ways differently than how you had planned. It's OK to make those changes and adjust your routine.

      Reward yourself and your family members with a special treat. While the clean house itself is a great reward, you and your family might appreciate a something special for completing all of your chores.
