How to Animate Editing Curves in LightWave

LightWave is a computer program capable of producing high-quality animation for movies, TV or video games using a wide variety of tools. In an animation sequence, you may want to have an animated object follow a curved path in a scene, such as a plane doing loops or stunts. The process for accomplishing this in LightWave is straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Start LightWave, and open a model you want to animate.

    • 2

Open the Modeler utility. Click the Create tab, then choose the Spline Draw tool. Use the tool to draw a curved path in the views for the model to follow. Click "Layout."

    • 3

Go to the Scene Editor, and select the layer with the spline path. Go to Object Properties. In the dialog box, click the Geometry tab, and choose "Add Custom Object." Click "Show Curve" so you can see the curve in the views.

    • 4

Select the layer with the object you want to animate. Click "M" to bring up the Motion Editor. Click "Add Modifier," and choose "CurveConstraint" from the options.

    • 5

Double-click on the CurveConstraint that is now listed. From the list, choose the layer with the spline curve. Click "Align," and enter the start and end time, which is the number of frames in the animation. Click "Play" to watch your animation. Save your work.
