Fringed scarves are made beautiful with beaded embellishments.

Beading the fringed ends of a scarf adds texture, color and even lends to a whimsical sound when your scarf rustles as you walk. When you're bored with one of your fringed scarves, take the time to add some embellishment to it with beads to create a totally new, wearable work of art.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb the fringe of your scarf gently to ease out any tangles or knots. Separate the fringe by fanning it out on a flat surface, selecting which strands of fringe you want to bead.

    • 2

Grasp one fringed thread with the end pointing upward.

    • 3

Slide a single bead of your choice down the length of the fringe section. You can use any color, texture or material of bead you want, as long as the fringed material fits through the opening of the bead. Slide the bead until it won't slide down any further.

    • 4

Dab a spot of fabric glue over the top opening of the bead, making sure it doesn't slide off the fringe.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 through 4 to bead as much of the fringe as you'd like. Tie a knot at the end of each fringed tendril to ensure that the beading doesn't slide off the fringe.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with a wide array of bead colors, textures and styles. For instance, craft and hobby supply shops carry a seemingly endless variety of beads for virtually any project you can imagine. Beads made of precious metals and gems also exist for adding embellishment to quality silks and other high-end scarves.

  • Dampen your fingers slightly by either licking them or dabbing them in finger wax before beading each fringe tendril. This keeps the fringe straight for beading.
