How to Remove Sweat Stains With Isopropyl Alcohol
Sweat is mainly composed of water. It also contains chemicals such as ammonia, urea, salts and sugar. Mix that in with the antiperspirants that are applied to the underarms, and sweat can be a difficult stain to remove. There are products on the market that claim to remove sweat stains from laundry but they don't always work. They can also be costly. Instead of sending your money down the drain, use inexpensive isopropyl alcohol to clean sweat stains from your garments. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Clean rag
- Paper towels
- Kitchen timer
- Washing machine
- Laundry detergent

Lay the article of clothing out as flat as possible so the stained areas are easily accessible.

Blot the sweat stains with a rag and plenty of isopropyl alcohol to make the fabric moist.

Fold clean paper towels so they are the same size as each sweat stain. Pour enough isopropyl alcohol on each towel to make them damp, but not sopping wet.

Place a paper towel on each sweat stain to remove it. Press the towel down so it has direct contact with the fabric. Set a kitchen timer for 30 minutes.

Check the paper towels often during the time they are soaking. As they dry out, replace them with clean towels that have been moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

Remove the paper towels from the fabric and discard them. Rinse the isopropyl alcohol out of the fabric with cool water. Loosely wring the water out. Launder the article of clothing according to the care tag instructions.

Tips & Warnings
To remove any stain residue, wash the garment with household bleach or a color-safe bleach.
The alcohol works by dissolving the components of the stain so they can be washed away.
Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Keep it away from fire, flames, heat, sparks and electrical devices.
Keep isopropyl alcohol out of the reach of children and pets.
