How to Make Porch Ghosts

Decorate your home with spooky, scary ghosts for Halloween.

Halloween is definitely near when you see spooky creatures, ghosts and witches displayed on people's porches. Halloween decorations are cute, funny, spooky or scary. One of the easiest spooky decorations people make is a porch ghost. These ghosts float around on a porch, moving around with every breeze. Add blue lights or spot lights aimed at the ghosts, and people will notice the ghosts even more. Create one or more ghosts, and hang them on the porch for Halloween.

Things You'll Need

• 2 Styrofoam wig heads
• 2 white plastic 60 inch round tablecloths
• Fishing wire
• Black permanent marker
• 2 pulleys
• 1-inch screw

Instructions

1. Sit the Styrofoam wig head on a flat surface. Drape and center a white tablecloth over the wig head. Gather the tablecloth tight around the bottom of the wig head.

2. Wrap the fishing wire several times around the base of the wig head, and tie a tight knot. Repeat the procedure with the other tablecloth and Styrofoam wig head.

3. Draw two circles side by side on the tablecloth where you want the eyes on the round surface of the Styrofoam wig head. Draw another circle below the two circles for the mouth. Do the same thing with the other wig head.

4. Screw a 1-inch screw halfway down into the upper corner on the front door that opens into the house on the opposite side from the hinges. Screw the pulleys on the ceiling of the porch or on the eave of the porch where you want the ghosts hanging.

5. Tie one lose end of fishing wire to the string that is wrapped around the Styrofoam wig head on the back side of one of the ghost's head. Estimate where you want the ghost hanging, and cut the appropriate length of fishing wire. Make it a few feet longer than you need. Do the same thing for the second ghost.

6. Feed the cut ends of the fishing wires through each pulley, and hang the ghosts where you want them. Move the wire until the ghosts hang close to the floor of the porch. Tie the end of the wires to the screw on the front door. When the door is opened, the ghosts pop up off of the floor, scaring anyone near the opening door.
