How to Frost a Soccer Ball Cake
Make a three-layer round cake and decorate it to look just like a real soccer ball for a sports enthusiast's birthday party or a special soccer team celebration. Make the cake from a sports ball cake pan, which leaves the indents of the design of the ball on the cake and then decorate the cake with white and black buttercream icing. Use a real soccer ball as a guide to filling in the proper sections of the ball with the right colors. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Medium-size round icing tip
- Pastry bags
- White buttercream icing
- Soccer ball or a picture
- Icing spatula
- Small, round icing tip
- Black buttercream icing

Drop a medium-sized, round icing tip into an open pastry bag. Fill the bag with white buttercream icing.

Place a real soccer ball or a picture of a soccer ball on your work surface for reference. Trace around the inside of about 3/4 of the pentagons on the soccer ball with the icing. Trace within the pentagon and leave the delineating line between pentagons empty.

Fill in each of the white-lined pentagons with more white buttercream icing. Glide over each of the pentagons with an icing spatula to smooth out the icing.

Fill another pastry bag with a small, round icing tip with black buttercream icing. Trace each of the delineating lines in between each of the pentagons. Trace around each of the empty pentagons with the black icing as well.

Replace the small, round icing tip with the medium-sized tip, fill the pastry bag with more black icing and fill in each of the pentagons outlined in black. Smooth over the black icing in the pentagons with an icing spatula.
