How to Enter a New Location on Facebook Places

Facebook Places cannot be accessed from your regular computer.

Facebook Places is a feature exclusive to mobile phones. Use Places to let your social networking friends know where you are and who you're with -- after you select your current location, the tag feature makes it easy to add friends to the post. If you go to check in but don't see the name of the business or other location where you are, just add a new location to the program. Your new location will be visible to others and they will be able to check in there as well in the future.

Instructions

1. Open the Facebook application on your mobile device. If you don't have a device with a specialized application, such as Facebook for iPhone, use the Web browser on your phone to go to Facebook. Your phone will load the mobile version of Facebook's site.

2. Select the "Check In" link. The link is located just under the "What's on your mind?" field using a Web browser, although its location may vary if you are using a special application. If prompted by your mobile phone, allow Facebook to access your current location.

3. Click the "Add" link to the left of the search field. In some smartphone apps including the iPhone, rather than the "Add" link there is a "+" icon.

4. Enter a name for the new place in the field provided. An optional description can also be added.

5. Select "Check In" to create the new place and share your visit on your profile.
