How to Make Faux Dreadlocks
Dreadlocks are a hairstyle found on many men and women. This style began with the Rastafarians and spread to many other cultures, such as those in the cyber and goth communities. It's a bold and alternative hairstyle that requires little maintenance. Faux dreads can be done temporarily with a few tools on real or synthetic hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Separate hair into two sections, down the middle of your hairline, making a center part.

Section out a piece of hair at the desired thickness and width that you'd like the dread to be. Clip the rest of your hair back with a claw clip or barrette.

Apply a small amount of hair gel to the sectioned piece. Twist hair into a tight spiral. You may also put the hair between your palms and roll back and forth to create a long cylinder shape.

Grip the end of the twist and take a small toothed comb and begin to comb from the bottom to the top. This process is called back-combing and will give the dread more volume and the ability to hold more. Secure with an elastic band.

Apply a small amount of hair wax or beeswax for hair to the dread for extra hold and moisture. Repeat with the rest of hair until complete. Use a blowdryer after waxing to help heat and lock the wax into the hair.
