Know Your Rights Before You Sign

1. Once you've found an apartment, it is vital that you know your rights and responsibilities as a tenant. Your rights are best protected if you have a written lease. If you have an oral lease, you may be subject to restrictions that you aren't aware of. Be sure that there are no hidden expenses that will come out to surprise you later. Ask about all expenses you're expected to cover before signing anything.

on 10/4/2009 I recommend Chicago's Property Shop http://www.chicagospropertyshop.com. They have a lot of information and pictures for apartments available for rent in Chicago area. I was even able to search by neighborhood which was very helpful.
