How Is the Combination Changed on a Sentry Safe?

  1. Factory Combinations

    • Every safe produced by Sentry is preset with a factory combination, or code. This combination is the sequence that is listed on the cover of each user manual and is hard-coded when the safe is built.

The factory combination cannot be changed. However, in cases where the combination code has simply been forgotten, it can be retrieved. Sentry retains records of all safe combinations. Providing proof of ownership along with the serial number of the safe will allow the company to issue the factory code.

    Manager Combinations

    • On digital Sentry safe models, an additional manager code can be set, which differs from the factory combination. Owners can choose to memorize the user's code and share it with employees, while keeping the factory combination secret and secure.

To change the manager code, press the "Program/Enter" key. Enter the five-digit factory combination that has already been supplied, then press the "Enter" key again. An icon with a star will display to indicate that a manager code already exists and will be overwritten. Enter a new code between four and eight digits to use as the combination and press "Enter."

    User Combinations

    • A third combination, called the user code, can also be added to digital Sentry safes. This combination is designed to give temporary access to certain users without revealing the other two combinations. After it has been used, the user code can be easily erased.

Six separate user combinations can be set. Changing the user combination is similar to the procedure for the manager code. Press the Program/Enter key twice to enter the user mode. Enter the manager code and press the Enter key again. Next, use the left and right arrows to scroll through the six available user codes. A star icon will display if the code is already set, while an open icon shows that it is not yet coded. Input a user code of four to eight characters and press the Enter key to finish changing the combination.
