Palomar Photorejuvenation Process
-
How Does Palomar Photorejuvenation work?
-
Over 25% of all Americans are over 50 but many wish to appear younger. Palomar Photo rejuvenation is a form of cosmetic surgery using high frequency pulsed light to remove wrinkles and blemishes from the skin. The process works by using pulsed laser light to remove lesions, wrinkles, and scarring.
Over the years skin gets damaged by exposure to sun, wind, and chemicals. Ultraviolet radiation causes the skin to toughen and wrinkle. Cosmetics and weather damage skin also. Insufficient hydration and pollution add to the toll.
How it works
-
The intense pulsed light device is a flash lamp that produces polychromatic light. This is light at varying frequencies between 500 and 1200 nanometers wavelength. Filters are applied to block different frequencies of light depending upon the effect desired. The Photo rejuvenation process uses the optimal wavelengths of light to remove vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting hemoglobin and melanin. Once the damaged structure absorbs the heat the lesion disappears. Photo rejuvenation is effective on face, hands, arms, and chest areas.

Hyper pigmentation
-
Liver spots, sometimes called age spots, are a form of hyper pigmentation. Caused by sun damage, these dark spots are usually found on the face, neck, and arms. Hormonal changes due to pregnancy or birth control pills can also cause dark spots on the face and body. Acne and other skin diseases can also cause dark spots or scarring. All of these conditions can be effectively treated with Photo rejuvenation light therapy.
Melanin, skin bleaches and lasers
-
Skin creams used to lighten skin tone contain hydroquinone. This chemical works by reducing the amount of melanin in the skin. These freckles, dark spots and skin discolorations are caused by overexposure to sunlight. The harmful UVA and UVB radiation causes the body to produce melanin which causes the damaged area to darken. Over the counter skin bleaches may cause irritation and take as long as 3-6 months to work.
Laser therapy using ruby lasers or other pigmented lesion lasers has been used to safely treat severe hyper pigmentation. This treatment must be used with caution. Testing on a small area first is recommended.
Unsightly small veins
-
Aging, sun damage, trauma, and other factors can cause small blood vessels in the face to break causing red or discolored areas. Intense pulsed light therapy can safely and effectively remove these unsightly blemishes.
The treatment can also be used to eliminate dilated blood vessels without damage to surrounding blood vessels. The IPL treatment may also be used to help create smoother, younger looking skin.
