Bad cable TV reception could be the result of many causes. The first thing you must do is to make sure that the TV is set to the right programming channel. Check this out your instruction manual. For many areas these channels are 3 and 4. If this is the situation, you should quickly solve the problem by switching to the right channel.
Bad Wire Connections

If the program channel is not the problem, then the next thing you must do is to check to see if all cable connections in order. Sometimes loose or improperly connected cable wires are the most common cause of bad reception Make sure all wires are correctly plugged in the wall as well as the cable boxes and VCR. The cable coming form the wall should be plugged in the IN jack on the back of your cable box. If you are not using a cable box then the cable coming from the wall should be connected to the IN jack of the VCR, Video Player, or directly into the TV.

Snow effects, light screens, double images and ghosting that affect your cable TV reception may all be a result of broadcast problems. If so, usually these will be fixed within a short period. If unsure, you should attempt to adjust the tuning, especially if there are vertical or horizontal lines, to confirm that the bad reception is indeed a broadcast problem.

This happens because these appliances have large motors and consumes lot of energy and power. Unplug the heavy appliances or move them to another location within house, if possible.

Bad cable TV reception can also be a result of authorized digging in your area. It could be a city project or cable technicians or repairmen fixing a problem. If you have tried everything else without success, you may want to call your cable company to see if technicians or city workers are performing a job in the area.
