If the hotel does not discover that you have violated the pet policy, there is a good chance nothing will happen to you. If no one sees or hears the dog or cat, and there is no mess that is left by the dog or cat, the hotel will have a hard time proving that you have violated the pet policy. They will most likely not be able to charge your credit card or issue any fines if they do not know the policy has been violated. This does not happen often, however, because most hotels are very much in tune with what is going on within their walls.
Charging Credit Card

Hotels will charge credit cards of people who have been found to violate the pet policy by not paying stipulated fees for having pets. If the hotel allows animals with a fee, and you did not claim your animal and pay the fee, your credit card will be charged the fee once the hotel finds out you brought an animal. Often, this will be accompanied by a warning to not bring your animal back to the hotel, or to remember to claim your animal the next time around.

Large Fee

Hotels will charge large fees if they do not allow animals on their property and you have broken this policy by bringing a dog or cat into your hotel room. They do not need to have any proof of damage in order to charge this fee. If the hotel policy stipulates that animals are not allowed, and you brought one in anyway, hotels can charge whatever fee they feel like charging.
Damage Responsibility

Hotels will charge patrons for damage that their animals cause. Whether or not the animal was declared, and the fee was paid, hotels have the right to charge patrons for anything their animal does. This includes making messes in the hotel room, destroying bedding or furniture, or chewing on wires, table legs or walls. A cranky hotel owner might attempt to pin any pre-existing damage on a pet owner who has stayed in a room, especially if the pet owner did not declare the animal or broke another section of the pet policy.
