Cleaning Berber Wool Carpets
-
Act Quickly
-
Berber wool carpet fibers are very thick and wiry. They can pull dirt and debris beneath the carpet's surface quickly. Foot traffic can mash the dirt further into the carpet, making dirt, stains and discolorations more difficult to remove. If you notice that something has been tracked in or stained on your Berber wool carpet, take immediate action. If it's a dry substance, use a light sweeping motion to bring it to the surface, where you can vacuum or sweep it up. If it's a wet substance, blot the stain with a paper or cloth towel.

Keep Carpet Dry
-
Berber wool carpet doesn't do well when it is cleaned with moisture. Wetness can discolor the carpet or cause it to lose some of its shape. Therefore, if you want to deep-clean your carpet, use a steam cleaner. Berber wool carpet holds up best in rooms that have adequate sunlight and ventilation, which can help keep it dry. Refrain from bringing food and drink into rooms with Berber wool carpet. Hiring a professional to clean your carpets a few times a year can also cut down on the normal wear and tear that eventually ruins carpets over time.
Other Cleaning Methods
-
Vacuuming the carpet twice a week to take away dirt, debris and excess moisture resulting from spills and skin oils. Though vacuums are very effective in lifting dirt from Berber wool carpet, their attachments are not. Stick to the standard vacuum function. The added sweeping and sucking attachments don't work well on these types of carpets. The same can be said of any cleaning device that contains sharp points or small features, as these can become tangled into the Berber wool fibers, causing breakage and damage to the carpet. Foam cleaners, which dissolve and dry quickly, are effective spot treatments. Powder cleansers also work well, in conjunction with regular vacuuming. Do not use liquid cleansers or bleach on Berber wool carpet unless otherwise directed by its manufacturer.
