You may have an older cookie sheet hiding behind all of you pots and pans that can still be used despite its appearance. Cleaning old cookie sheets or oven pans depend on the amount of grease or rust that developed through time. Try different techniques before giving up and throwing the old cookie sheet away. Make sure the cookie sheet is a clean as possible before using it, as it could dangerous to bake cookies on the sheet if there is still grime on the sheet. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. How to Clean an Old Cookie Sheet

      Soak the entire cookie sheet in hot, soapy water for at least 30 minutes. Get the whole sheet covered in the water. Scrape off any old food or substance with a knife or rubber scrapper after the sheet has been in the water for more than 30 minutes.

      Spray oven cleaner directly on dirty areas of the cookie sheet. Let the cleaner sit for 15 minutes and then use a cloth to wipe off the spray. Wash the cookie sheet immediately with soap and water. Make sure that you use a cleaner that won’t damage the cookie sheet by checking the label first.

      Use a grease remover that is used also for removing rust stains. It’s possible to use heavy duty solvents, like grease remover spray for cars as long it won’t hurt the coating of your cookie sheet. Read all warnings on the remover before using and thoroughly clean the sheet after use.

      Sprinkle baking powder on the cookie sheet if you still can’t remove the grease. Wait 10 minutes to let it absorb on the sheet and the wipe it off with a paper towel. Clean the sheet in hot water with soap. Repeat this process until all grease is removed.
