What Are Transparencies?
Transparencies are clear or translucent sheets that have images or photographs printed on them. You can have them made up professionally, or print your own transparencies with text or images and place them on an overhead projector to transmit an image to a wall or surface. Many classrooms use transparencies during lectures to easily post text and images for an entire classroom to see.
What are Transparencies Made of?
The primary component of a transparency is polyester. Specifically, transparencies are made of what is called Type 1 Polyester, which is also used in various fiber fills for carpeting, chairs and insulation. Manufacturers also produce transparencies in a multitude of tinted colors as well, which allow images to be printed on the transparency with a background color, but still be visible when projected on a screen. The composition of a transparency is similar to that of a thin plastic, but they are also extremely durable.
Function & Versatility
Transparencies play a vital role in helping create visual presentations for large groups and events. They are also remarkably easy to transport since they are so thin and lightweight. Printing images on transparencies can also be done from a home computer, and they are available for purchase at most major office retail stores.
Once you have finished using your transparency, you can also recycle them to be used in new transparencies, or to be used in various products that use Type 1 Polyester. Many transparency manufacturers provide customers with a way to send in their old, unused or damaged transparencies for recycling.
