What Food Causes Acne?

A diet that's high in animal products, dairy, saturated fats and hydrogenated fats can cause pimples. One of the skin's functions is to eliminate excess waste from the body through sweating. As the toxins leave through the skin, they clog pores. By eating a healthy diet and staying away from certain foods, you can minimize the toxins in your body and reduce breakouts.

    Sugar

    • Sugar greatly suppresses the immune system and allows for bacteria like candida to thrive. Yeast overruns the body's healthy bacteria, which can give rise to skin inflammations. Avoid sugar in refined carbohydrates and processed foods. Sugar lurks in ketchup, marinara sauce, candy, ice cream, yogurt, gravies and breads. Read food labels to be sure your food is sugar-free.     Dairy

    • Dairy produces mucus that coats sinuses and small intestines. The mucus that forms in the small intestines prevents nutrients form being absorbed by the rest of the body. Lack of nutrients can hinder skin cell production and cause whiteheads and blackheads. Many people have a food allergy to dairy products, which worsens symptoms. Refrain from eating dairy products like cheese, ice cream, milk and butter. Replace these products with soy milk, almond milk and soy cheese.

    Protein

    • Red meat promotes an acidic environment in your body. Acne-producing bacteria thrive in these types of settings. Sodium nitrite, which is found in sausages, deli meats and hot dogs, is a toxin to the body. Likewise, sulphur is found in many meat products and harms the lining of the gut. Incorporate fish, organic chicken and turkey, and soy products into your diet. Include a lot of detoxifying fruits, nutrient-rich vegetables and fibrous whole grains.

    Fats

    • Saturated and hydrogenated oils can cause acne. Try to eliminate fried foods, shortenings, lard, coconut oil, palm kernel oil and margarine. These oils can raise your bad cholesterol and produce hardening of the arteries, which will suppress proper blood flow to your body. Use extra virgin olive oil or cooking spay.

    Caffeine and Alcohol

    • Both caffeine and alcohol are diuretics that dry out the skin. They can lead to the skin producing more oils to make up for their drying effects. Dead skin cells will not be removed in time and the pores will get blocked. Limit your amount of chocolate, coffee, tea and alcohol.
