How Does Limelight Work?

  1. What Is Limelight?

    • Limelight treatment is a skin rejuvenation process that is used to make skin look younger, smoother, healthier, and to improve complexion by eliminating blotchy areas and age spots. Limelight uses a cool laser (one which uses such a low frequency that it causes no heat, and therefore no burnings) to stimulate skin and to help break up the dark spots that make a person's complexion splotchy. Limelight can be used on the face, neck, chest and hands without any danger, and it has become popular due to its non-invasive nature and the fact that there is rarely any pain following the procedure.

    Procedure

    • The patient meets with their doctor to help customize the treatment. Things to take into account are the patient's skin tone, age and sensitivity to the laser. Once the treatment has been customized, the patient has her skin prepped with a cool cream. Then the area to be treated is placed under the laser for up to an hour, but rarely any longer than that. To get the full benefit of limelight treatments, patients will need to have up to three separate treatments done.

    After Treatment

    • Following a limelight treatment, the patient's skin will likely appear slightly red, with any dark spots growing darker. The treated area may also be slightly swollen and irritated, but the swelling will rarely last more than a few hours after the treatment. Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots on the skin will flake off, leaving the patient's complexion clearer. It's recommended that sun block be used after limelight treatments whenever venturing outdoors. Limelight treatments won't protect against further skin damage from the sun, but they can be used to help reverse new damage.
