How Long Does it Take to Get a GED Transcript?

  1. Ordering in Person

    • If you order your GED transcript in person from the institution that issued your GED, you can get the transcript the same day. Arrive in person at the issuing institution, whether this is a school, an alternative learning center or another facility. Bring identification and $10 in cash. (Charges vary from place to place, but this amount is sure to cover your request.) Ask for a transcript.

You can either have it printed so you can take it with you, or you can have it faxed somewhere else. If you take it with you, you can have it in minutes. Having it faxed somewhere may take a bit longer.

    Ordering by Fax

    • Delivery times vary for GED transcripts ordered by fax. If you send a fax during a business day and the GED office has enough time to fax your order to you before the day is over, it might get to you the same day. If you want the office to fax your transcript somewhere else, it might happen that day or the next business day. If you send a request by fax after business hours or on a weekend, you will not get a reply or a transcript until the next business day.

    Mail or Email

    • Some institutions allow you to request a GED transcript by mail or by email. If you request one by email, the same timeframe applies as that for faxes. If you request a GED transcript by regular mail, allow at least three days for the request to reach the office, and at least three more for the transcript to be sent to you or to the requesting institution via mail. If you request a transcript by mail but wish it to be faxed, the transcript probably will be faxed on the same day the request arrives.
