What Is a Bedazzler?

The Bedazzler is a tool used to apply rhinestones to fabrics for decorative purposes. First released in the 1970s, the Bedazzler has seen many reincarnations, and today it can be used to add rhinestones and crystals to clothing.

Similar in appearance to a stapler, a Bedazzler's has a base that has a wheel shape that can be moved to various setting depending upon the type of stone being affixed to fabric.

How It Works

Once a selected base is used, a person places a plastic "plunger" on the base and a stud or rhinestone on the top portion of the Bedazzler. The fabric is inserted in between the two, and then pressed down. Little metal spikes on one side of the stone penetrate the fabric, thus affixing the rhinestone to the fabric.

For Best Results

The Bedazzler works best on thinner fabrics, such as cotton/polyester blend t-shirt materials, silk, or cotton. It can be used on thicker fabrics, such as denim or leather, but stronger force should be used when clamping the apparatus together.

Typically selling for under $50 (depending on the amount of desired stones), the Bedazzler has proven an inexpensive way to personalize clothing without taking up time to individually glue or sew on the stones.
