How Long Does it Take to Play Golf?
-
A Round of Golf
-
Golf is played in rounds; the round consists of 18 holes. The time it takes to complete each hole can vary based on a number of variables. Typically, the round of golf lasts about 4 1/2 hours. This is the time for each player in a four-man group to complete the entire 18 holes. However, there are cases when rounds take much longer.
Multiple Players
-
If your group has many players in it, like five or six, your round will take much longer. That is because more players need to complete each hole. The chances of each player finishing faster is also reduced, because there is a higher probability that every player in the group does not have the skills to complete each hole faster than average. The average time for a group of four to complete a hole is between 15 and 20 minutes; this time will be longer for a larger group of players.

Crowded Courses
-
A crowded course can add a lot of time to your golf round. On a crowded course, more people are playing the holes, and that means there will probably be a group of players in front of you. Each group must stand and wait until the group ahead of them is finished with their shots before they hit, because their shots may reach the players ahead. If you have to wait several minutes for the group ahead of you to finish each hole, it can really add a lot of time to your round. In this case, five to six hours is a more realistic time frame to complete a round.
Weather
-
Weather can delay a golf game for some time. In the case of heavy rain, or high winds, players may need to stop in the middle of a round and wait for a storm to pass. The time this adds can be anywhere from two minutes to several hours or more. Golfers will always be pulled off the course if lightning is in the area.
