HR Training Process

  1. Training Assessment and Tabulation of Results

    • The Human Resources department assesses the need for the training. For this, several measures are taken. The department sends out a detailed questionnaire to the managers and their subordinates to know the areas where training is needed. The department meets with managers of various departments to help identify those areas. After the assessment of training needs is complete, the results are tabulated, summarized and shared with stakeholders. For this, the HR department sends out the summary pointer and feedback and an anticipated training program.

    Training Components

    • The HR department then plans out the components of the training program very deliberately and diligently. It makes sure to include the right mix of technical and soft skills. Technical skills imparted are hands-on training for the job and product-centric training. Soft skills are ways and means for effective team building and communication, management skills and ways to combat sexual harassment and discrimination.

    Selection of Instructors

    • The HR department's next job is to select the people who would impart the training. This takes the help of the functional managers to identify those individuals who have the necessary knowledge required to train others. They decide whether to draw people from within the organization or external instructors. Internal training offers benefits to the organization in terms of cost savings and being a morale booster to the instructors. The instructors make sure to include a lot of practical activity and participation in the training process. They use group discussions, role plays and breakout sessions to encourage the learning process.

Recording and Tabulating the Training Results

    • Once the training is completed, the HR department tabulates its outcome. For this process, all trainees are asked to give their feedback. From this, the HR department gets to know the extent to which this exercise was fruitful or futile. Modifications are then made for the future.
