What is TFT LCD?

TFT LCD stands for "thin film transistor, liquid crystal display." LCD's are flat-panel displays that are used in most of today's new cell phones and HD (high definition) televisions and computer monitors. LCD's are made up of pixels, which are filled with liquid crystals that provide clear and vibrant displays. TFT is a further innovation on the LCD. Tiny transistors in an LCD display act as triggers to turn on (and off) each individual pixel.

How Does TFT LCD Work?

In your typical LCD display, you will have a grid comprising millions of pixels. These pixels provide the color (and absence of color) you will see on your screen when the pixels are backlit by the light source at the back of your display. Thin film transistors made of silicon provide a lightweight and clear substance to activate each individual pixel.

How Do TFT's Improve Picture Quality?

The color filter on a TFT uses three primary colors (red, blue and green) to divide pixels into these color counterparts. They are then mixed to produce other colors, as most colors can be produced using any combination of the three colors. This improves picture quality by eliminating interference between pixels that may cause bleeding colors or a nullification of colors altogether.
