How is a B12 Injection Given?

  1. B12 Deficiency

    • Vitamin B12, or cyanocobalamin, is most often given to treat a deficiency in the body caused by normal aging or a bad diet. B12 is absorbed from meat and dairy products and is necessary for growth and cell reproduction. Without enough of it, an individual may feel tired or suffer from low energy.

    B12 Injection

    • The most common form of receiving extra B12 is through an injection. The shot of around 1,000 micrograms, given roughly once a week, should be given as hygienically as possible to a muscular area of the body at a 45 degree angle.

    Nasal Absorption

    • Those who are not fond of needles can opt for an over-the-counter B12 gel that is used to coat the inside of the nose. Similarly, crushed B12 tablets can be mixed with water to form a paste-like substance and also be spread on the inside of the nose. Of course, as with all treatments, you should consult a physician first.
