How Do CD Duplicators Work?
-
Introduction
-
CD duplicators produce a virtually unlimited number of copies from a single CD. There are a few different kinds of CD duplicators with various prices and features, but the basic technology behind all of them is the same. Some even provide functionality that goes beyond duplication.
Manual CD Duplicators
-
Manual CD duplicators generally make between one and ten copies per run. They usually come in a tower shape with a tray for the master CD and others for blank CDs. The duplicator reads the master CD and burns the information to all blank CDs. Once a run is completed, someone has to manually insert more blank CDs to make more copies.

Automatic CD Duplicators
-
Automatic CD duplicators create many copies in a row without any outside assistance. Some higher end models can actually make hundreds of copies in a row. These machines are typically fed with a stack of CDs. The machine takes the top CD, burns a copy and then places it in another stack. The duplicator repeats this process until the run is complete.
Expanded Features
-
Some automatic CD duplicators have a printing function as well. These machines come with software that allows the user to create a design on his computer and then send the file to the duplicator. As each CD copy is made, the duplicator also prints the design onto the CD.
