Making Vinyl Stickers
-
Uses
-
Vinyl stickers are useful for decorating furniture and walls and to convey support for political candidates, beliefs or causes. Vinyl stickers are also ideal for rewarding students for jobs well done, as well as for children's projects. Other uses include return address labels or decorating mailboxes.
Contact Paper Stickers
-
The sticky paper used to line kitchen shelves known as contact paper is ideal for making vinyl stickers. All contact paper is just a vinyl material with adhesive backing. You can choose from colors, patterns or designs at most discount stores or from kitchenware aisles of grocery stores. You'll also need a pencil for drawing your design.

Drawing and Cutting Out Designs
-
It's easier to use the release backing of contact paper than the front side for drawing your shapes or designs. In addition to being easier to cut, drawing on the release side makes it easier to erase mistakes. Just be sure not to apply so much pressure that your pencil or pen damages the vinyl. Remember that you're drawing in reverse as the mirror image will be on the vinyl side of contact paper. Once you're satisfied with your design, carefully cut it out with sharp scissors.
Using Computer Graphics Programs
-
You can also make your own vinyl stickers using a computer graphics program such as Corel Draw. Create a design. Then load an Inkjet printer with Inkjet Printable Waterproof Printable Vinyl sheets. Before printing, do a print review to ensure the design fits onto the paper. Print out your designs and then cut out your stickers.
Laminating
-
Apply a sheet of Poly Focus Glossy Over Laminate to your sticker. Smooth out any air bubbles between the vinyl and laminate by taking a ruler or other straightedge and ironing out all air pockets or creases. Go over your sticker until it's smooth. Cut your sticker out with scissors. For extra care use an arti-square and razor blade.
