How Do Hair Replacement Adhesives Work?

    Adhesive Tape

  1. Hair replacement adhesive tape works much like traditional double-sided tape. The tape is sold in spools or as individual pieces. It is affixed to the hairpiece, then placed on the head for a secure fit that lasts 8 to 24 hours. The tape is designed to be easily removed, so the fit is not as secure as with more permanent adhesives, but it is safer for the scalp and hair.
  2. Liquid Adhesive

  3. Liquid adhesives are often used by professionals. The liquid hair adhesive, or bonding, is affixed to the head, and the toupee is added to the head. The liquid adhesive creates a bond between the hairpiece and the scalp. The process is semipermanent and lasts for about 6 weeks before it must be redone. For best results, have a professional apply and remove the liquid adhesives that are used in hair replacement pieces.
  4. Clips

  5. As an alternative to adhesive, some hair replacement systems use clips to secure the piece to the existing hair. The process can be done at home. All it requires is clipping the metal clips attached to the hairpiece to the remaining hair around the edges of the hairpiece. The remainder of the hair piece is combed over to ensure that the clips cannot be seen.
