  1. Preparation

    • Installing a Meyer snow plow involves disassembling some important parts to make room for the plow unit. First, the truck's battery is disconnected and the bumper is removed. This reveals the front end of the truck's frame. Removing the bumper allows easy access to install the plow unit's support frame. Tow hooks are also taken off and placed to the side.

    Securing the Support Frame

    • The plow's support frame is the straight bar that runs parallel to the bumper and supports the plow's operating mechanisms. It is attached to the end of the frame using lock nuts and bolts. Depending on the vehicle's model, holes are sometimes drilled to attach the support frame. When the support frame is secure, the bumper is reattached.

Lift Frame, Under Frame and Lights

    • The lift frame is positioned and attached to the vehicle's bumper bracket while the under frame is bolted to the vehicle's crossmember and stabilizer bar. When in place, the light brackets are clipped to the lift frame. Each light is measured and positioned according to regulation. The lighting controls are mounted inside the truck's cab and wired to a separate harness that will give them regulated power from the vehicle's battery.

    Power System, Hydraulic Unit

    • Before the snow plow is attached to the pivot bar, the hydraulic system is mounted to the plow frame. The hydraulic system arms are attached to the sides of the A-frame. Hydraulic arms are held in place by brackets welded on each of the frame's sides. The electric system, which controls the hydraulic system, is wired according to specification.

    Intalling the Plow

    • A Meyer plow contains three separate units.

The exposed side of the pivot bar, to which the plow is attached, is fastened to A-frame. The front side of the bar is bolted to the plow. Support springs and angling rams are attached to the back of the plow and A-frame. When assembled, the unit is greased and tested. Each nut, bolt and installation security is usually inspected and re-secured after the plow's first use.
