Troubleshooting a GE Range
  1. Internal Fuses

    • If your GE range isn't turning on whatsoever, it is likely due to a blown internal fuse. Fuses blow in an attempt to protect the user from a potentially dangerous problem with the product--in this case, a surge of power probably went through your range, which could have led to disastrous results. Consult your manual to determine the location of your fuses on your specific model of GE range, obtain a replacement part from an appliance repair shop, and replace the fuse.

    Burners

    • If your GE Range seems to turn on but you can't get your burners to light, your pilot light has probably gone out. The pilot light is a main burner located underneath your range that lights all of the other burners. On the front of your range, remove the front panel (located beneath the door)and look inside. If you don't see any kind of flame glowing anywhere inside, you need to relight your pilot light before you'll be able to do anything.

    Sensors

    • Another problem that could lead to your GE range not working correctly is damaged sensors. The range has two sensors inside that keep track of how hot it is getting--the first is located above the pilot light, the second inside the range itself. If the first sensor is damaged, it will not allow the pilot light to stay lit. If the second sensor is damaged, the range will constantly think it is at the correct temperature and never turn on. If your range meets either of these symptoms, you need to have a certified repairman replace your sensors.
