How is Trident Gum Made?
-
Gum's Origins
-
Gum is made from two kinds of tree sap. The sap is obtained from the sapodilla or the spruce tree. The sap is also called chicle, which appears as a milky white latex. Chicle is also a form of rubber that softens with heat and stiffens when it's cold. Spruce tree sap is boiled, then the sugar and flavor are added. When it cools it is rolled and flattened. The flattened roll is cut into squares or sticks. The sticks are dipped in cornstarch.
The Saphodilla Tree Sap
-
The saphodilla tree sap is made into gum similarly to the spruce tree. The tree is grown slowly and the sap is acquired from tapping on the tree for long periods of time. The sap is then stirred over a fire and poured into blocks, dried and melted. The combined gums and resigns are shaped into desired designs.

Trident
-
Trident is a sugarless gum and the first national brand of sugarless gum to be approved by four out of five dentists. The original formula contained enzymes, which were used to soften tartar. Saccharin replaced sugar and artificial sweetners. Trident also contains sugar alcohol, xylitol, sorbitol, manitol aspartame, surclose and acesulfame pottassium. The shapes of the gum vary with the type of gum and tridents made in six distinctive types. Trident White is made with recaldent, an ingredient to remineralize teeth. Trident Fusions are a mixture of fruit flavors merged together. Trident Splash contains gelatin that is not recommended for those who are vegetarians but contains a liquid substance that squirts when you bite down into the squared gum. Trident Soft is a long strip of gum; two other types are Trident Fresh and Trident Sweet Kicks.
