How Does the Ab Swing Work?

Basics

As-seen-on-TV products often come with caveats to consider the source. The hype surrounding products such as the Ab Swing often is overrated and untrue. But, any kind of fitness product, when used properly and in conjunction with a proper diet and additional exercise, will prove fruitful. The Ab Swing is a resistance exercise machine that utilizes a slide-and-glide process. The promoters claim that the equipment works the abdominal muscles from the "bottom up." Each roll starts by working the lower abdominal muscles, then the upper abs, followed by the side obliques. Claims go on to say that lower back strength is achieved with a workout on the machine for just 5 minutes per day.

The machine is about 4 feet high and is made of metal and resembles a three-legged dolly with a seat on it. Simply lean or partially sit on the padded seat and hold onto the handles on each side. By sitting upright on the bench and holding the handles on the side, the body is automatically put in an upright position, prime for an ab workout. Abdominal muscles are isolated by this position, which often is difficult to maintain when lying on the floor doing crunches or while using other ab machines. Place feet slightly apart and brace them against the holders on the floor. Bend while sitting and feel the crunch that emanates from the lower abdomen upwards. The Ab Swing works by allowing a full range of motion on the upper body. Muscles can be flexed and relaxed easily utilizing the resistance pressure of the metal post holding up the unit. The idea behind the Ab Swing is you can just sit and swing for 5 minutes and sculpt a six-pack that will be the envy at the beach. Most experts and fitness trainers say that floor crunches are just as, or more, effective than the workout provided by the Ab Swing.

When it first came out, the Ab Swing cost about $115 but has been discontinued by the as-seen-on-TV promoters. There are plenty of used Ab Swings available online from consumer and overstock sites that sell for closer to $45. Fitness trainer and Ab Swing promoter Hunter Tylo links to a site that sells the Ab Swing new for $39.99. The Ab Swing is a convenient piece of equipment for home use, because it does fold up for easy storage.
