Troubleshooting a Wireless Rear Speaker Transmitter

  1. Batteries

    • The first thing you should do when troubleshooting a malfunctioning wireless rear speaker transmitter is to make sure the speaker itself has batteries and that they are not dead. As the rear speaker is wireless, its only power supply is that of standard batteries, so if the batteries have died the transmitter won't have anything to send a signal to. This could easily be the reason why your rear speaker isn't working. For best results, be sure to change the batteries in your wireless speakers every six months or so.

    Covered Up

    • If you are having problems with your wireless rear speaker transmitter, you should make sure that nothing is potentially blocking the signal that the transmitter is giving off. Ultimately, the transmitter isn't all-powerful, and it being covered up by anything--DVD cases, clothing or anything else you might find on a shelf--could potentially block the signal. Always keep the area directly around your transmitter clear of any objects, especially those that contain metal or any other agents that could stop the signal from reaching its destination.

    Interference

    • Another common cause for having problems with a wireless rear speaker transmitter is interference. The transmitter converts the signal it is receiving from the DVD or CD that you are trying to play and converts it into a signal that can be broadcast. The signal itself is not all that dissimilar to the ones used to broadcast to standard radios, so anything that sends or receives signals in the direct vicinity of the transmitter could potentially interfere. Make sure there are no portable TVs, radios, FM transmitters for iPods or any other similar devices near your transmitter or speaker for the best results.

I have just acquired older wireless speakers with batteries which won't hold a charge. But, with the chargers on, I would expect to receive a signal but don't. Will the speakers not receive a signal if batteries are bad but chargers on?
