Hawaiian Airlines Inc. is a subsidiary company of Hawaiian Holdings Inc. In 2010 Hawaiian Airlines operated a fleet of 33 aircraft with flight attendant positions to be filled on each aircraft's scheduled route. With 190 flights a day scheduled, Hawaiian Airlines recruits candidates for flight attendant training as business needs warrant.

Company History

Hawaiian Airlines was founded in 1929 under the name of Inter-Island Airways Ltd. and offers weekly island-to-island roundtrip routes. Eighty years later, Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii's largest airline and serves 20 destinations with emphasis on western U.S. coastal airport service, South Pacific and Pacific Rim international destinations and inter-island shuttle travel. All of Hawaiian Airlines' employees try to ensure that the airline's No. 1 ranking in on-time performance is upheld.

Economic State

Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii's award-winning airline for customer service satisfaction and has an employee force of more than 3,800, with 18 percent of those jobs being held by flight attendants. With expanding route structure and tourism growth in the Hawaiian islands, Hawaiian Airlines recruits candidates to replace retiring or career-changing flight attendants occasionally during each year. Any interested candidate should monitor the "Employment Opportunities" section of Hawaiian Airline's website for openings and flight attendant recruitment open houses.

Qualifications

A desirable candidate for flight attendant training will be able to attend a six-week unpaid intensive training course in Honolulu. The ability to lift 50 pounds, pass a qualifying physical, have open availability and be able to relocate are ideal attributes. Fluency in a second language is one of the most valuable assets a flight attendant candidate can possess; an educational or experiential background in hospitality/tourism-related occupations or study is preferred but not mandatory. Excellent communication skills and minimum/maximum height requirements are also considerations.

Application Process and Interview

Hawaiian Airlines recruits flight attendants as dictated necessary by its company's economic standing and growth. The best opportunity to receive an offer of training as a flight attendant is to attend a flight attendant recruitment event or open house as they are scheduled. Recruiters will be there already in the process of looking to hire so you do not have to cold contact any human resource office with your resume, which only will be accepted for open positions. Group interviews are held, followed by individual first interviews on the spot by selection after the group session. If successful, candidates will be asked to a second interview or to submit to a pre-employment physical.

Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant Training

If a candidate is offered an invitation to attend flight attendant training with Hawaiian Airlines, it will last for a six-week period with five weeks of in-flight customer service procedures training specific to Hawaiian Airlines and one week of Federal Aviation Administration-mandated emergency and safety training certification. A flight attendant trainee must pass satisfactorily all aspects of training before becoming an actively employed flight attendant with Hawaiian Airlines. Upon completion a base will be assigned to operate from and a mandatory employment probationary period will begin for the new flight attendant.
