How Does Xenadrine Work?
-
Claims
-
Cytodyne Technologies in New Jersey manufactures two different types of diet pills, Xenadrine EFX and Xenadrine RFA, both of which are supposed to make the physical body thinner and get rid of existing fat. Originally, the manufacturer used ephedrine to increase metabolism, but after numerous lawsuits, the company changed its diet pill formulations. Although the current pills have the same goals, the ingredients are different.
Bitter Orange
-
Xenadrine EFX contains bitter orange, a derivative of a citrus fruit with the active ingredient synephrine, which behaves similar to the way ephedrine did to speed up the body's metabolism of fat. However, WebMD advises that bitter orange may cause heart instability or mental problems and suggests that dieters do not exceed the recommended daily dosage and that they discontinue use and consult their physician if they experience any negative side effects.
-
DMAE
-
On the label of a bottle of Xenadrine RFA diet pills, Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is listed as an active ingredient. DMAE occurs naturally in some types of fish and is considered a nootropic--a brain-enhancing substance. Xenadrine RFA claims to have appetite-suppressing properties and DMAE may assist some people in feeling better emotionally and therefore more likely to stick to their diet and exercise plans.
Vitamins
-
Both types of Xenadrine include a number of vitamins and minerals, including B-complex vitamins and vitamin C, both valuable in regulating physical energy. Although vitamin supplements can't burn fat on their own, if your body is deficient in one of these vitamins, you may have more energy when taking Xenadrine and you may exercise more as a result.
Diet/exercise
-
Xenadrine is marketed as an "aid" to weight loss and dieters are encouraged to use it as one part of a healthy eating and exercise plan. With added caffeine, Xenadrine may energize some dieters who normally find it hard to exercise.
Side effects
-
The very aspect that makes some dieters experience success when using Xenadrine is also the factor that may cause side effects in others. As bitter orange increases metabolism, the heart beats faster and respiration increases. Some dieters may experience heart palpitations or jitteriness. If you experience any negative side effects when taking Xenadrine, discontinue the program and consult your physician.
