Sell a Car on the Internet Via Email

  1. Email your family, friends and acquaintances to let them know that you are selling your car. A lot of used cars are sold to people that the seller knows, and this should be your starting point, too. This will eliminate the need to meet with strangers, which is especially beneficial to women who are selling their cars. Your friends know your car's history and appearance, and even if they're not interested in purchasing the car from you, they might inform their friends who might be interested in purchasing a car.
  2. Sell a Car on the Internet Via Craigslist

  3. If your car isn't spectacular, classic or customized, you'd probably fetch a good price by listing your car for sale on Craigslist. Listing your car on Craigslist is free (vs. eBay's listing and final value fees), and will expose your car on the Internet to hundreds or thousands of locals who are interested in purchasing a used car.

Women who want to sell their car on the Internet on Craigslist should take precautions. Do not mention your gender or the fact that you are single, divorced or alone during certain hours. If someone contacts you with an interest in your car, have a male friend or relative with you when the prospective buyer arrives to check out your car. During the meeting, don't mention the male's relationship to you or the fact that he doesn't live with you.
  4. Sell a Car on the Internet Via Ebay

  5. Ebay is the perfect place to sell a car on the Internet if your car is a year, model or condition that is in great demand. While a 1996 Honda Accord would definitely sell for a higher price on Craigslist, classic cars like a 1964 1/2 Mustang or a souped-up Volkswagon Beetle would fetch higher prices on eBay. This is because buyers from across the country and the world search eBay frequently for rare and unusual cars. Using eBay will broaden your buyer audience from the local area that you can reach with Craigslist to millions of potential buyers.

When listing your car on eBay, remember full disclosure, to protect your seller reputation and to keep your integrity. If the clutch sticks, mention that in the ad. If there's an old Dr. Pepper stain in the back seat, write that, too.

eBay buyers love lots of photos, so set up an account with Auctiva so that you can add several pictures of your car without having to pay eBay's per-picture fees.
