How Does Laser Whitening Work?
  1. Introduction

    • Teeth say a lot about a person. Teeth are often one of the first things a person looks at when getting a first impression. A clean, bright, white healthy smile is not only a way to ward off dental diseases but it can give you a boost socially in relationships and even economically with your job status. This is why the teeth whitening market has become as successful as it has, especially when it comes to laser teeth whitening.

    Preperation

    • Before a laser teeth whitening treatment is done, the teeth are usually cleaned to remove any grit or stains that can be removed by traditional dental cleaning methods. This gives the best results for whitening as it allows the gel to sit directly on the stained teeth, instead of having to work through months of buildup.

    Isolation

    • Next, the teeth are isolated from the lips and gums by using special pads that are placed in the mouth to separate the lips and gums from the bleaching solution that is about to be applied.

    Procedure

    • Next, the special whitening gel is placed on the exposed teeth. After a good coat has been applied, a special laser that has been specifically designed to work with the gel is aimed at the gel-covered teeth. The reaction between the gel and the laser penetrates deeper into the teeth and removes and breaks up stains and discoloration that many other whitening applications would be unable to reach. The laser works as a catalyst to help strengthen and speed up the reaction of the gel on the teeth. The gel is usually applied for approximately 15 minutes. Then the gel is removed, and the procedure is repeated two to three times more.
