    Wireless Card or Antenna

  1. Modern laptops and desktops have the capability for wireless connectivity. They are either equipped with a wireless card or one must be purchased and installed. A signal is sent from the wireless card to any modem that is within range. Range will depend on the quality of the card. The modem will then send a signal back to the wireless device, opening the channels of Internet access.
  2. Wireless Router

  3. In order for wireless broadband to work, a wireless router must be connected to the modem. Often, a router is connected to a modem then the radio wave or signal is sent from the router. There are modems that double as a router. The computer is linked to the modem, the modem is linked to the wireless router, then a signal is transmitted to the wireless device once all firewall and personal settings are set up by the user.
  4. Satellite Broadband

  5. Satellite broadband works in exactly the same way as wireless broadband. he only difference between the two is a satellite broadband connection is obtained in areas that are not highly populated or where telephone and cable service is limited. Satellite broadband is often more expensive because the connection between the satellite and the modem reaches a farther distance.
