    What Are Velcro Rollers?

  1. Velcro rollers are a type of hair roller meant to produce large, loose curls without the use of heat. Velcro rollers differ from other types of hair rollers in that they're made of the teeth side of Velcro. When hair is rolled up in these rollers, the Velcro teeth grab onto the hair strands and don't require any pins or clamps to stay in place. This minimizes the damage to the hair while curling the strands.
  2. Using Velcro Rollers

  3. When using Velcro rollers, start with hair that is either completely dry or just barely damp. Wet hair is more delicate, and therefore is more likely to become tangled in the rollers. Spray the hair with a touch of hairspray or leave-in conditioner; this hair product will help keep flyaways in check while the hair is rolled. Starting at the bottom of a section of hair, roll the hair up to the scalp. The roller's teeth should grip the strands; if the roller feels loose, secure it with a bobby pin. Allow the rollers to set for at least 30 minutes, then unroll. The longer the rollers set, the tighter the curls will be. Finish the hairdo with a bit of styling product.

If there isn't time to wait for the curls to set, blast the rolled hair with a hair dryer for about five minutes, then unroll. It'll produce the same result, but air-drying is a better option because it doesn't damage the hair.
  4. How Do Velcro Rollers Create Curl?

  5. Velcro rollers are able to create curl without using heat because the material grips the strands tightly enough to set the style. Many other types of non-heated hair rollers, such as sponge curlers, must be used overnight or for several hours to get a good result. Because Velcro rollers are hollow in the middle, air can pass through the center of the roller, which dries the curl from the inside as well as the outside. This sets all the strands in the same amount of time and produces an even curl.
