What Is a Detox Foot Bath?
-
Ancients believed in the healing power of water, creating and utilizing natural spas to help alleviate multiple types of ailments. Detoxing the body is a process in which negatively charged ions and toxins are removed from the body through the skin. With the feet having the high concentration of pores in such a limited area (more than 2,000 pores on each foot), the feet are a natural choice to remove toxins harmlessly.
The Science Behind It
-
A detox foot bath consists of placing the feet in a mixture of sea salt and warm water, with an electrode to pulse electrons into the salted water. The theory is that the positive electrons in the water will attract the negative ions coming out of your body through your feet. This process is called ionization. The charged water will remove all negative toxins and ions found in the body through nutritional imbalance and toxin build ups.
Toxins will build up in a body that is not properly maintained. A body that consumes an improper diet and does not include a healthy exercise regime will find a negative toxin build up, causing several types of health problems. When the detox foot bath is used, it stimulates the body to alert the lymph glands to being the process of detoxifying the body. The lymph glands generally collect the negative toxins, as well as the kidneys and liver, and when these areas get congested with toxins, the body begins to slow down. Think of a clogged drain. The more junk that had collected on the rim of the pipe, the harder it is to pass through. The body works in much the same way. If the lymphatic system is clogged with toxins, it cannot effectively remove the toxins at an appropriate rate to maintain a healthy system. Detox foot bath can help remove those toxins and cleanse the body.
By extracting the negative ions from the body through this process, individuals can find relief from multiple ailments, such as headaches, sinus problems, blemished skin, chronic cold and flu problems, and body odor. Most treatments are no more than 30 minutes, and in that time, individuals will find it very relaxing and calming. Hospitals even use this technique to help treat chronic problems like athlete's foot and hypohidrosis (excessively sweaty hands or armpits).

Where to Do It
-
It is not advisable to create this mixture at home by throwing a live wire into water. You could electrocute yourself. Either purchase a detox foot bath or find instructions on how to build one properly on your own. Most spas will have a detox foot bath for a minimal fee. However, you can have your own at home.
If you own a home foot bath, add a mixture of herbs to the warming foot bath. Some suggestions for herbs could be ground ginger or leaves from a pine tree, but you can do some additional research online to see what other herbs can be used. Make sure that the bath water reaches at least 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Sit back and enjoy the spa for 10 to 30 minutes. You can do this once a week, along with a healthy diet and exercise program, to maintain the health of your body.
