How Does Clearwire Work?
-
Connection speed at a glance
-
Clearwire does not use a phone line or cable of any sort to connect a computer to the internet. The Clearwire modem picks up signals from nearby wireless towers. Wireless towers constantly transmit an Internet signal, which means that there is no waiting for Internet connection. The connection is instant, and the speed is approximately 1.5 megabytes per second. Software is not needed. The Clearwire modem is a plug-n-play device that starts working at the minute it is plugged in to a desktop, laptop or computer network.
Point to multi-point wireless system
-
At the heart of Clearwire is the Motorola Licensed Point-to-Multi-point Expedience system. This system is part of MOTO wi-4 (a line of products for non-line of site internet connectivity [NLOS]). There are two routes that a consumer chooses from in order to connect to the internet with Clearwire. Computers can be connected to Clearwire via a PC card or RSU (RSU is automatic adaptive modulation for networks). RSU is essentially an ethernet bridge apparatus used for a single LAN network. This means that the device is located in the home and gives wireless connectivity to everyone indoors or within the range of the wireless frequency. The Internet signal speed is just as fast as broadband (utilizing the 10 base T RJ-45 connector), but does not require a cable to connect to RSU. The only limitation is that the user must work within the range of the signal. On the other hand, Clearwire offers the PC card for users who wish to be truly mobile. A PC card is fitted into the laptop and the laptop is instantly connected to the Internet.

Where it works
-
Clearwire transmits the Internet over thin air, virtually anywhere in the United States, Mexico, and in some parts of Europe. The wireless signal is transmitted from cellular towers or buildings. The wave frequency is 2.5 to 2.6 gigahertz in the America and Mexico (3.5 gigahertz in Europe). Clearwire is the closest achievement in modern technology to WiMax (WiMax is the concept of wireless internet in every city, in every country). Clearwire's modem allows computer users to access the Internet, download/ upload files, send e-mails, and chat over the Internet (phone) anywhere the 2.5/2.6 gigahertz radio frequency is broadcasted.
