How a Liver Flush Works
-
What Is A Liver Flush?
-
A liver flush is a way to cleanse the liver of toxins to enable it to do its job better. Its job is to aid in digestion and to move toxins out of the bloodstream.
A special diet is consumed for several days to cleanse the liver. One example is the apple juice diet, as described in "Seasonal Cookfire" by Carrie L'Esperance (1998, New Bear & Co., New Mexico). Organic apple juice is consumed for two to four days and, at the end, olive oil is consumed to cleanse the liver by prompting it to produce bile. Gallstones are often released as a byproduct.
How Do You Cleanse the Liver?
-
In the liver cleanse recommended by author Carrie L'Esperance, drink nothing but warmed organic apple juice for up to two days. On the last day, combine ½ cup of olive oil with 1/3 cup of apple juice, lemon juice or grapefruit juice that is warmed. Consume this olive oil-fruit drink.
Next, lie on your side for about half an hour and go to sleep for the night. The next day, you will pass several gallstones. Return to eating by starting with steamed fresh vegetables, simple salads dressed with olive oil and lemon and fruits. -
Benefits of Doing a Liver Flush
-
Doing a liver cleanse will help it to do its important tasks more efficiently. The liver helps in protein, fats and cholesterol digestion. A poorly function liver may result in feelings of "heartburn" or a reduced ability to digest fats or absorb fat-soluble vitamins such as A and K.
Some people undertake a liver cleanse several days before the start of spring to prepare them for lighter foods and to help them shed weight from overeating during the winter holiday season.
