How Microsoft Makes Pamphlets
  1. Pamphlets in Word

    • One way to make pamphlets using a Microsoft application is by creating them in Word. To make a pamphlet in Word, open a blank document. Change the page orientation to landscape by going to "Page Setup" from the "File" menu in Word 2003 and selecting "Landscape" on the "Margins" tab. In Word 2007, select "Orientation" in the "Page Setup" group of the "Page Layout" tab. Click the "Columns" button on the Standard toolbar in Word 2003, or on the "Page Layout" tab in Word 2007. Select three columns. Type text or insert pictures into the column on the first page, with the understanding that this page will be the inside of the pamphlet. To insert graphics, go to the "Insert" menu in Word 2003, point to "Picture" and select "Clip Art," "From File," or another graphic option and insert the desired graphic. In Word 2007, go to the "Insert" tab and make a selection from the "Illustrations" group. Enter text and graphics on the second page as well. The third column of the second page will be the front cover of the trifold pamphlet. The second column of the second page will be the back cover. Print the pamphlet pages back to back, according to your printer settings.

    Pamphlets in Publisher

    • Another way to use a Microsoft application to make pamphlets is with Publisher. Publisher includes many built-in templates for trifold brochures that make it easy to create a pamphlet. In Publisher 2003, select "Publications for Print" in the "New from Design" task pane. Expand "Brochures" and select a template. In Publisher 2007, select "Brochures" in the "Popular Publication Types" gallery. Customize the template with your personal or business information and change any graphics desired. Print the pamphlet double-sided, referring to your printer's instructions to do so.

    Pamphlets in PowerPoint

    • A third way to make a pamphlet is using Microsoft PowerPoint. Open a blank slide. Go to the "Format" menu in PowerPoint 2003 and select "Slide Design." Go to the "Design" tab in PowerPoint 2007 and apply a theme. Select placeholders and click "Delete." Go to the "Insert" tab of PowerPoint 2003 and click "Table." Click "Tables" on the "Insert" tab of PowerPoint 2007. Insert a table with one row and three columns. Drag the table to fit the entire slide. As in the previous methods, enter text and graphics into the columns on two pages and print back to back.
