How Are Golf Tees Made?

    Preparing the Materials

  1. Golf tees are made out of plastic and wood, and to start the process of making a golf tee, you must prepare the raw materials. For golf tees that are made out of plastic, plastic pellets are mixed with strengthening ingredients to form the ideal plastic material. For wooden tees, trees are cut down and stripped of their bark, and then they are cut down into smaller blocks of wood.
  2. Shaping the Tee

  3. Plastic tees are formed through injection molding, and the plastic pellets are loaded into an injection molding machine. After they pass through a hydraulically controlled screw, they are melted, and the plastic is injected into a mold of a tee. The plastic tee is kept in the mold under intense pressure until it cools. While the tee cools, it hardens. When it is opened, the tee is ready to be released. Wooden tees are shaped through a conveyor, and the wooden blocks are cut into one half of a tee. The tee halves are glued together, the long way, and together they form a singular golf tee.
  4. Coating and Finishing

  5. After the plastic tees are released from the injection molding machine, they are cleaned and residual plastic is removed. Wooden tees need to be sanded and coated with weather resistant paint. A wooden golf tee may need to be cut once more before it is ready to be packaged.
