  1. Bark collars come in a variety of sizes and strengths to accommodate barking dogs of all statures. Purchase a bark collar that fits comfortably, but tightly, around your dog's neck. Choose a collar that has either one mild setting or one that has a choice of settings you can manually change. The bark collar will only be as good as the fit on your dog and the appropriate shock.
  2. Putting the Bark Collar On

  3. Place the bark collar around your dog's neck. It should be close to the dog's standard collar. Be sure to tighten it. The shock box of the collar should be positioned against your dog's throat. This will provide a noticeable shock to the dog, teaching the dog to stop barking.
  4. How the Bark Collar Will Work

  5. When your dog barks, the vibration of its vocal cords signal the shock box on the bark collar to go off. With each bark vibration, the shock box responds with a mild jolt. The more the dog barks, the more shocks it will receive. If your dog does not seem to notice the shock upon barking, you will need to upgrade the shock released. The shock released should never hurt the dog, but should cause enough discomfort for the dog to associate barking with a bad feeling.
