How Does a Tailgate Party Work?

What is a Tailgate Party?
-
A tailgate party is an event that occurs when you can't get tickets to a sporting event, but still want to show your support and team spirit by throwing a huge outdoor shindig. In a tailgate party, each of the participants drives their car to a central location where they all watch the game on outdoor TVs or listen to the game on the radio, and cheer on their favorite team.
Food
-
Food is an integral part of any tailgate party. Whether it be negative 25 degrees in the middle of winter or 100 degrees in the summer, you will always find a grill and plenty of food and snack foods. Hamburgers and hot dogs are standard tailgate fare, but nachos, hot wings, and pizza pull a close second for popularity. Of course there has to be plenty of snacks to go with those main courses such as chips, dips, and all the junk food you can get your hands on.

Drink
-
Drinks are the next most important part of a tailgate party. Beer is usually central to the party, but other drinks such as root beer or other soda products are common as well. They of course have to be ice cold, so the cooler is an essential piece of equipment to ensure optimum beverage temperature.
Team Spirit
-
Team spirit is an integral aspect of a tailgate party. Car painting, face painting, and wearing the colors of your team proudly are all essential to throwing a tailgate party.
Atmosphere
-
The atmosphere of a tailgate party varies depending on those attending the party, and those planning the party. It is not uncommon for tailgaters to compete over who has the best set up. The largest TV, the most comfortable watching area, and the best food are all common parts of creating an atmosphere that attracts the most party-goers. It is not uncommon to even see full living room sets make it out onto the lawn or into parking lots during a tailgate party. At least you will need camping chairs for your guests to relax and enjoy the game.
